I have been writing and speaking about using this time in life for becoming. Like all worthwhile endeavors, it is a process and a journey. Ultimately, it is also your life story. What do you want your saga to say? What are you becoming?
If you are unsure, I recommend reading autobiographies and memoirs. These first-person glimpses into other people’s lives are fascinating. They can inspire you, annoy you, excite you to action, serve as cautionary tales, and leave you with questions and decisions about your own path forward.
Michelle Obama’s book, Becoming, is one example. It clearly shows how this process can evolve. She first had to define herself—ME—apart from her family of origin, her neighborhood, and what was expected of her. As she pursued her dreams, she faced difficult situations and made tough decisions. This prepared her for US, life with many roles and responsibilities. She then became a champion for those who had no voice, including children. By introducing programs to improve children’s health, her own life story turned into so much MORE.
How do you define ME, US, and MORE in your own autobiography? Read more in “Discover your unique purpose” to help you with your journey of becoming.
