Look at your retirement years as an adventure and be open to the opportunities (and the challenges that are hidden opportunities for growth) that present themselves along the way. Leave the complaining about disrupted plans to someone else.
I speak from experience. I had planned to blog consistently as I settled into semi-retirement. Instead, I continued to help my clients prepare for successful retirements as I cared for my dad in his final years, worked through my loss when he died, and then settled his estate after his passing.
At roughly the same time, my husband and I moved into a new office, began building a new house, and put our home of a dozen years on the market. If you have ever moved your office, you know the decisions to be made to declutter while you continue to run your business and focus on your clients. If you have ever built a house, you know the countless decisions that must be made in a timely fashion to keep work on schedule and on budget. If you have ever sold a house, you know the time and effort required to declutter, make repairs, stage your home so prospective buyers can see themselves in the house, and keep a staged home in pristine condition for the next realtor’s showing.
Having recently experienced the home-buying and selling process so intimately and when we purchased a second home for retirement purposes seven years ago, I chose to write a book to help more people choose the perfect place to live. Where Will You Retire?: A Retirement Guide And Exercises For Deciding Where To Retire, Buy A Second Home, Or Relocate
* is now available on Amazon for Kindle (and for Kindle on your PC). The exercises in this book will help you—no matter what your purpose for moving—create your wish list, and the checklists will aid you in comparing properties.
By looking at life as an adventure and turning challenges into opportunities, I have discovered that I can help more people more quickly by putting this information into a book. Where will you find adventure or create opportunities from challenges?
