Many people look at retirement as freedom from work. It is also freedom to plan retirement with the WORK PROVIDES model.
I created and trademarked the WORK PROVIDES model several years ago. It is a simple tool to help you remember to replace the numerous non-financial benefits of work when you retire. This gives you the freedom to enjoy retirement without losing the non-monetary rewards of the workplace.
When you plan retirement with the WORK PROVIDES model, you will find ways to incorporate new activities, people, and routines into your daily life. These will replace habits and priorities you may have held for the last 30, 40, or even 50 years of your life while you were working at your career.
Without planning like this, retirement can be life-altering and less freeing than you imagined when you were working so hard. Now is the time to create your own happiness. Your success in this transition to retirement will be affected by the choices you make. As Alan Lakein so clearly states, “Planning is bringing the future into the present so you can do something about it now.”
Are you making retirement plans now? With the ongoing pandemic, work as many of us know it could end at any time. Now is a good time to consider making a change or even consider life without work.
It’s easier to plan for life without work and for retirement with the WORK PROVIDES model. This image shows you what you need to replace:
I explained the Work Provides model in my April 2020 newsletter entitled “Is This Going To Be Your Retirement?” I also shared a more in-depth look at this model in the LinkedIn article “Successful Retirement Planning—Replace What Work Provides.”
Use your freedom to plan for retirement wisely. You can replace the non-financial benefits of work and have a successful retirement.
