Are you taking care of your health now or waiting until you retire? Don’t wait! Years of good health habits will give you years of health benefits. However, once your health has been compromised, you may not recover enough to truly enjoy retirement.
Some steps you can take before you retire—even if you think you are too busy:
• Move more—get out of your chair every half hour, take the stairs, park farther from your destination, walk around the block after dinner
• Wear a pedometer or a Fitbit and challenge yourself to get 10,000 steps per day
• Avoid foods high in fat, salt and sugar and choose fresh fruits and steamed garden vegetables (without sauces), fish and lean meats
• See your doctor to discuss health concerns and make sure you are up-to-date with a physical, all your shots, routine blood work, and a blood pressure check
• Weigh yourself one to two times a week to make sure you maintain your ideal weight
