Retirement Assessments and Tools
As a Certified Retirement Options Coach, I have the opportunity to use a number of assessments and tools to help pre-retirees assess their readiness for retirement and recareering. Depending on the circumstances and the individual needs of my clients, I use one of the following three assessment tools. Each of these assessments is taken over the Internet and the results are provided immediately. Each assessment has a companion book described below. In addition, these assessment tools are used in conjunction with other materials that are provided to the client by the coach including:
- Life Transition Insight and Involvement Exercises to be used by the client.
- Powerful Questions for goal setting and “the next steps” are asked to deepen the learning.
- Ongoing one-on-one and group coaching for areas where the client needs support.
The Retirement Success Profile (RSP)
This assessment gives a person a comprehensive overview of the areas that he or she is strong in and identifies those areas in which they need more preparation. The RSP is a scientifically designed detailed profile that measures the 15 factors crucial to a client’s readiness to retire successfully. It assists clients in gaining comprehensive self-understanding as they plan for their unique retirement. This product consists of 120 questions, which were designed specifically for individuals and very small groups. A summary of the results of the RSP is provided in a 23-page printout, which is interpreted by the coach to determine the strengths and weaknesses. The New Retirement, a 121-page book by Richard Johnson, accompanies the RSP.
The Life Options Profile (LOP)
This assessment is a scientifically designed profile used to measure the six life arenas for larger groups. This product consists of a 99 item assessment that measures 20 separate lifestyle and attitudinal factors that are arranged into the six sub-categories that are called Life Arenas. Being aware of and working on these life arenas is essential for pre-retirees to gain a comprehensive understanding of themselves as they plan for their unique retirement. This product generates a 10 page document that gives a short description of each of the 20 factors. The LOP gives each client in the group a comprehensive overview of the areas that he or she is strong in and identifies those areas in which they need more preparation before retirement. What Color Is Your Retirement, a 169 pages book by Richard Johnson Ph. D, accompanies the assessment.
Re-Career Success Inventory (RSI)
The ReCareer Success Inventory is a scientifically designed program that measures 15 competency areas that are essential for successful recareering in retirement. This assessment consists of a 120-item inventory that provides a detailed assessment of a client’s readiness to recareer. The RSI gives the client a comprehensive overview of a client’s areas of strength and identifies those areas in which they need more preparation before they recareer. ReCareer: Find Your Authentic Work by Richard Johnson, Ph. D. is this assessment’s 257-page companion guide.
