You have the skills to handle life transitions. My guess is that you have already successfully gone through a number of changes in life. You have transitioned from home to school and school to a career, from living with your family of origin to living independently and starting your own family. You may have experienced illness, love, loss, and relationships of all kinds.
Moving forward from this point on—no matter what life transitions and changes you are facing—requires the same life skills and knowledge you have used successfully in the past. If you were disappointed in an outcome, you have a new opportunity to make different choices and forge a better path. The hope is that with each change we learn more about ourselves, our values, our support system, and our ability to move through adjustments with resilience, ease, and empathy for ourselves and others.
Like it or not, change is inevitable for all of us. Dread it, resist it, ignore it, do everything you can to avoid it, and change still happens. Since we spend so much energy avoiding change, we’re often unprepared for the inescapable changes that will come our way whether we are looking forward to them or not. Since we are all creatures of habit, life flows more easily for us when we have skills and systems in place to carry us through times of transition and change.
